Protect 1 metre of vulnerable forest
This gift buys 1 metre of unprotected forest connected to Canande Reserve in Ecuador, to save this biodiversity hotspot and endangered Green Macaw population. This tropical rainforest contains at least 36 Endangered Great Green Macaws, which could be the largest group in the world. The main challenges faced by the reserve involve commercial logging, clearing for oil palm plantation and cattle pastureland.
This deforestation is also fuelled by a major road construction campaign and uncoordinated colonisation of the forests. This land must be purchased immediately and protected to ensure that this diverse ecosystem is no longer threatened, and that the site's conservation value can be maintained. This purchase will also include a number of park guards to patrol the area and prevent clear cutting.
