Inca Jay

Protect 1 metre of vulnerable forest

This gift buys 1 metre squared of tropical forest in Podocarpus National Park, Ecuador, to save this incredibly rich bird habitat and orchid population. The rainforest known as Copalinga forms part of the eastern Andes, one of the most biodiverse places in the world, and is home to a total of 554 recorded bird species and the highest orchid diversity in Ecuador.

This also includes the common Inca Jay, which is endemic to Ecuador. The main challenges faced by the national park are mining, logging, agriculture and illegal settlement. It is urgent that this area be secured for conservation as soon as possible, particularly since an estimated 75 percent of the region's habitat has been lost over the last 10 years.
