Save 100 metres of tropical rainforest
This gift buys 100 metres squared of unprotected forest in the Airo Pai Community Reserve, located in northern Peru's Amazonian lowlands, to save this missing link corridor and unique wildlife. These tropical forests are mega-diverse, meaning they contain big cats like the Peruvian Jaguar, more than 4,000 species of plants, 90 amphibians and 550 species of birds, with many still undescribed.
However, nearly 20% of this forest has been lost to exploitation. The main challenges faced by the Reserve include illegal logging, oil exploitation and agricultural encroachment. Oil and gas activities are proposed for the land requiring protection, so it is critical to protect these forests, indigenous communities and their vulnerable species from further land encroachment immediately.
