Protect 1 metre of diverse wetland
This gift buys 1 metre squared of unprotected wetland connected to the Adam's Mission Wetland Nature Reserve in South Africa, to save this critical biodiversity area and the last stronghold of the reed frog. This wetland contains two of the most highly threatened reptiles in the world, the Endangered Pickersgill's Reed Frog and the KwaZulu Dwarf Chameleon.
The reed frog's habitat is only 20 percent protected meaning 80 percent of the population falls outside of the official protected area. The main challenges faced by this area is proposed housing developments encroaching on the habitat and the threat of invasive, non-native vegetation species. Subsistence agriculture is also a major concern. It is essential to protect this area from further human encroachment into the wetland.
